A valid FIS license is required for an athlete to register and compete in FIS (Federation Interantionale de Ski) sanctioned competitions, including Provincial Series, NorAms and Canada~Snowboard Nationals (Speed).

FIS licenses are current from July 1st to June 30th each year.

A FIS license gives the athlete the opportunity to earn FIS points. FIS points are used to rank athletes internationally, as well as for some provincial and national ranking criteria.

There is a minimum age for FIS licenses:

  • Snowboard Cross and Alpine: 15 years and older (December 31st of previous year, ie 2011 for the 2011-2012 season)
  • Freestyle: 13 years or older (December 31st of previous year, ie 2011 for the 2011-2012 season)

To obtain a FIS license, an athlete must hold a current BC Snowboard Advanced Membership and SAIP insurance (minimum of Class 2B SAIP).

After you register, check the FIS site: Athlete Biographies for your FIS number. You will require your FIS number to register in FIS sanctioned events. Your biography will also show current FIS points and FIS results.
